For those who have read or are reading Sleep Magic, Surrendering to Success
If you know that you are not by nature a disciplined person – and don’t get all judgmental on yourself about that, it’s a genetic trait! – here’s a way to proceed: make copies of the Life Before Life assignments and the Caretaker assignments found in the book. Cut the copies up into individual assignment strips, 1 assignment per strip. Put them in order and place the pile in a place where you will see them, for sure, during the day. For some people that place might be by the bed but for others it might be on the breakfast table. Assignment programming can be done at any time during the day! Once you read an assignment, it’s programmed.
If you want to move quickly and are comfortable doing so, do 1 a day. If you find your sleep affected or are having troublesome dreams, slow it down and follow the guidance provided in the book. This will get you through the foundational assignments, and doing these assignments is key to allowing your personalized assignments to be more easily effective.
I strongly suggest that the Life Before Life assignments and the Caretaker assignments be done every 18 months or so. This is because when you do any assignment you are always telling your body to let go of only what it is comfortable releasing. So as time passes and you are creating your own assignments, your body will increase its own comfort level with you, its trust in you, and will be able to farther with each repetition.
Because we never know if any of the foundational assignments are ‘necessary,’ (we know what we know, but we don’t know what we don’t know), do them all. Don’t skip an assignment because you don’t think you need it. The ego process is a tricky gangster, and thinking is no one’s best skill. Since an unneeded assignment does nothing, there’s no harm in doing assignments you may not need. Better to do them all and ensure that what’s needed does get done.
So even if you think you don’t need it, do it anyway.
Once you have completed the Foundational assignments, you will be using your everyday life to create your own assignments, tailored to your own life, based on your everyday life experiences.
Any time that you experience anything that makes you feel a way that you would rather not feel, you have the basis for an assignment. Because of the law of attraction, these experiences are drawn to you and are a clear signal that something inside needs to change.
Most people don’t have to be reminded of something unpleasant that happens during the course of a day; we tend to hold onto those things. An emotional insult hurts every bit as much as a physical one. If something doesn’t feel good to you, it doesn’t feel good to your body either. Every time you don’t feel good, it sets off a chain of chemical reactions in your body, and that affects your well-being and your health. So I would urge you to stop at the moment that you notice that such a thing has happened – or shortly thereafter – and program your body right then, while your emotion is still high.
Remember, once you have programmed your body, your body knows. You may forget, but your body won’t. Once you have programmed yourself, it’s done. You don’t need to do another thing. I know that sometimes when I hit the bed at night I think, “I know I programmed something…” but I can’t remember what it was. It doesn’t matter! Your body does, and it will go to work as requested. The goal is not to gain more information about your life; you have plenty of information about your life, most of it stuff you don’t really need to know.
Sleep Magic is not about knowing; it is about creating a strong trust between you and your body; it is about letting go; it is about allowing you to be happier and more comfortable.
You might want to carry a small notebook with you, though, in case more than one unwanted event happens in a day. You use it to jot down, in as few words as possible, a reminder of the incident and how you felt so that, on another night, when you have open time, you can use the experience to create an assignment around that.
Once you’ve moved on a bit, and your life becomes more and more filled with excellent occurrences, you can begin to take notice things about yourself that need improvement and use that information to become an even better you.
Using Sleep Magic regularly will allow it to become a simple habit, something that you do as regularly as brushing your teeth.
For those who suspect that they may have been victims of abuse or for those who are particularly sensitive to energy in general, I recommend that you have someone you can talk to – perhaps a friend who is also doing Sleep Magic – about the process. Do it in pairs; do it in groups; talk about the technique – not the insults or hurts or occurrences, you don’t want to give those fires more fuel, but the technique itself, how you fit it into your day, how you deal with feelings that an assignment may generate.
